10 IMPORTANT  PAINTING TIPS — TORONTO PAINTERS 647-6695405

Sometimes it is just a simple tip or technique that can make all the difference to the quality of the job.

Most professional painters and decorators will know of these painting & decorating tips so this is for the novice.

* Use a thin bead of decorator’s acrylic sealant before you hang wallpaper at internal corners, tops of skirting and at wall and ceiling junction and get a crisper straight cut

* Also use the decorators sealant at internal wall corners, tops of skirting and at ceiling and wall junction before painting where there is unevenness for a straight crisp line when cutting in painting.

* When painting walls or woodwork, after you have stripped, rubbed down and primed (where needed) apply a coat of paint before filling, this will give your fillers a nice clean and better surface to stick too and will show up all the holes dents and cracks better as well.

* All ways use a paint kettle, it is less weight than a gallon of paint to carry about, you can mix in the thinners easier and without thinning all the paint you have, its easier to load your brush correctly by tapping out on the side of the kettle, and if you have an accident it’s a lot less of a spillage.

* All ways double fold your dust sheets especially the ones you walk on for added protection.Paint-Roller-Technique-toronto_painter

* All ways be clean when filling as excess filler is excess rubbing down and fill slightly proud to allow for shrinkage.

* When using a roller in emulsion, roll a area of about 30ft square, then roll back over it one last time with the roller exhausted of paint, this will even out the texture and take out any tram lines.

* Don’t store oil brushes in spirit overnight unless you are prepared to spin out all the spirit, then wash out in warm water and detergent thoroughly prior to resuming painting. If you are not going to give them a thorough clean then keep the bristles in water overnight and work the water out on a board the next day.

* Keep emulsion rollers in a tightly sealed polythene bag overnight if you are going to use the same colour in the morning or clean them out.

* When hanging paper, check all batch numbers are the same as to avoid an expensive mistake.

Hope these painting tips come in handy

Decorative plaster

The big advantage before colouring of a surface or pasting by wall-paper decorative plaster possesses. It possesses, on the one hand, high decorative properties, and with another - hides small cracks, defects of a surface and insignificant roughnesses of walls.

Decorative relief plaster includes:

- Something binding - in most cases is synthetic pitch;

- Various additives - solvent, a thickener, preservatives, antiseptics and bio substances.

Let's consider all :

1) Type of a binding element.
It shares on 2 big groups:

Materials on a water basis.

As binding elements the set of materials on not water basis has epoxied pitches. They possess high wear resistance of coverings, durability, stability to excited environments and good adhesion to the basis. To internal works apply decorative plasters only on epoxied to a basis, and here with others compositions it is possible to work as inside, and outside of premises. After drawing and drying, decorative plasters do not burn, BUT! At heating above 140°С pitches which make a material basis, decay with allocation of toxic substances.

Materials on not water basis.
Decorative plasters on a water basis are much more safe: polymers entering into them, decaying, do not allocate poisonous substances. However there are also lacks: lower temperature firmness (they categorically cannot be put on strongly warmed up surfaces, more 65-90°С). Binding elements of plasters on a water basis are acrylic, styrene-acrylic, (PVA) and butadien-stirolnye dispersions.

- acrylic rack dispersions to temperature to 90°С, possess good adhesion to a surface, have excellent moisture resistance.

- Covering styrene-akrilovye possess still the best water resistance, have quite good decent stability to an ultraviolet, but at temperature more 65°С turn yellow.

- Butadien-stirolnye of a dispersion possess the highest moisture resistance, start to turn yellow too at temperature more 65°С and at all do not possess.

- PVA have not the best moisture resistance, are steady to temperature to 90°С.
